ABOUT EMILY
Does your family read your work?
Lol. Some do. They know I write erotic romance. Most of my family is liberal-minded and understand I’m not writing porn for men’s magazines but am exploring women’s sexuality in stories with strong female characters.
Is Emily Rooks your real name?
Alas, it is a pen name. My real name is difficult to spell and pronounce, making it a marketing nightmare. There also are people out there who want to deny sexuality’s important role in humanity and prefer women to be ignorant of it, so they will harass you and your family. Best to keep your real name secret!
Do you write full-time?
Not yet!
Do you write books other than erotic romance?
I dabble in literary and historical fiction but haven’t published in those genres. Perhaps one day I’ll write some crossover stories.
Will you read my story and give me your opinion/critique?
I’m sorry, time prevents me from being able to do so. I’d recommend finding a good developmental editor. There are also plenty of Facebook groups, online articles, and books about writing that you can tap for free or that can help you improve your writing. I encourage you to keep writing, though!
ABOUT MY BOOKS
Who are the models on your covers?
I have artists re-imagine my boyfriend and family members. Being men, they get a kick out of seeing themselves with the bodies on par with that of Thor and Aquaman, lol. By the way, none of my stories are about them.
Is there a reading order?
Not yet, but the universe I’m creating is self-contained with subtle links between various stories. It’s only in my notes at the moment but will start to be apparent as more stories are published.
ABOUT WRITING
Is getting a book published difficult?
If you go the “traditional” route with corporate publishers, yes. You’ll need a literary agent, and even then there is a lot of luck involved, never mind talent. If you go the self-publishing route, it’s not difficult at all. There is a steep learning curve, though, and you’ll definitely want an editor and possibly a professional cover designer.
